As promised here are the 4 drills to practice from the Clinic today!
Here is the “No Club Drill” we worked on today as a group. The explanations are from my Instagram account.
NO CLUB DRILL (Basic chipping action) – Great drill I use and teach in a lot of classes, clinics, lessons and demonstrations. (1) Pick up your right (trail) foot and shift your hips left, keep your weight there in the stroke. (2) Get your arms extended down, with elbows near your ribcage (every build is different, so do your best). (3) Get your palms facing each other and then angle your hands as shown (right wrist bent, left wrist bowed). (4) Use your body (shoulders, torso, hips, knees, feet) to move your hands and arms back and through. Your hands and arms should not move independently of your upper body, and your wrists maintain their position! It’s as though your setup creates an extension that your body rocks.

The “Wall” Drill
WALL DRILL – Another great drill to work work on your chipping technique! Stand about 18″ from a wall and get into your short game setup. Make your backswing and then SLOWLY work to bring your hands into the wall while holding the clubhead back (did I mention slowly?!). For many this feeling will take a while to get used to, so practice often and go slow!
The “Extended Club” Drill
Take your highest lofted wedge, and stick an alignment rod about a foot down in the end of the grip as shown (you can also hold it on the grip if it doesn’t fit, but in the end is best). Make some practice swings first, then work on small chip shots as shown in the video. The alignment stick should NEVER hit your side at this small of swing! Note: my lower body action, the triangle formed by my jacket and arms and watch my right wrist. This is a great drill to practice inside, at home and without a ball.
Left Arm Only Drill
Great drill here for club and body control. The secret to this shot is to NOT swing your arm, instead use your body to move your arm. Keep that lead wrist flexed! Copy this left wrist action for consistency!
