    Derek Deminsky is the 2022 Southwest PGA Teacher Of The Year!

    I was recently announced as the 2022 Southwest PGA Teacher Of The Year! It is an honor as we have such a large group of awesome coaches and teachers in Arizona and Nevada. I was chosen by the Southwest PGA Awards committee from a section of around 1300 members. I absolutely LOVE playing and teaching this wonderful game, and have more cool things in store to help students, members and followers improve their scores!

    It has been an absolute MINUTE! Hope everyone is doing well. Teaching and playing are going great and we are looking forward to an AWESOME season!

  6. Covid-19 Policies

    What a crazy time it has been!

    I hope you all are doing well and staying safe! Since the pandemic began, I have still been teaching as normal, with just a pause on the “Derek’s Friday Clinics”. I want to make sure all of my students are comfortable if they want to come out for lessons and that we are on the same page.

    So that being said, if you are sick or feel any symptoms related to Covid 19, please let me know and we can reschedule. Students are not required to wear masks during the lessons. If you would like to wear a mask, you definitely can, and if you would like me to wear a mask I would be more than happy to for you. So please let me know. Also, let me know if you would like me to keep distance or if it is ok to help move the club and you as needed. Golf is challenging and it can be helpful if I can help work and adjust some things, but I want your safety and comfort to be the highest priority. I do wash my hands and things necessary after each lesson and take my job and my student’s safety very seriously. If you have any other questions please let me know.

  12. Such A GREAT Time At The John Deere Classic!

    What a BLAST at the John Deere!

    As many of you know who follow me on social media, we played a BIG role in getting LEGENDARY golfer, Hosung Choi, attention and potentially helping with him getting sponsor exemptions. Back in January, I started a petition that gained a lot of momentum to try and get him a spot in the Phoenix Open, an although that didn’t happen, the tournament right after (AT&T Pebble Beach) gave him a spot and so did a few others!

    Hosung’s camp reached out to me multiple times to thank me and Golf Better Tucson social media for our effort and wanted a chance for us to meet and hang out at a tournament. It worked out as he got a spot in the 2019 John Deere Classic, for me to fly up there and hang out with Hosung and his camp for a few days!

    It was an absolute BLAST hanging out inside the ropes and helping Hosung with his game and play. Be sure and check out my Instagram for more videos from the week!

     

  13. Lesson Rates Increasing September 1st!

    As demand for lessons continues to be at an all-time high, I will be raising my rates again effective September 1st, 2019. All lessons will continue to remain at 45 minutes in length and Junior lessons (17 and under) will be moving to $50 per lesson and Adult lessons (18 and over) will be moving to $65 per lesson. Derek’s Friday Clinic prices will also be raising to $20 per person this coming fall.

    HELLO MY FRIENDS!

    WOW, did that season go by FAST!

    I hope you all had a great Winter and Spring as SUMMER is here! The least few weeks in Tucson have been CRAZY! WAY cooler temps than normal and it’s been great!

    A few updates.

    THE NEW 2.0 VERSION OF THE WEBSITE IS NOW LIVE! We’ve reorganized and shot a LOT of new content for you to check out! We’ve also added a FREE 7 DAY TRIAL to give it a shot and see what it’s all about. YOU CAN CHECK THAT OUT HERE!

    It’s that BEAUTIFUL time of year in Tucson! (Actually, when ISN’T Tucson Beautiful!). With the harsh winters across the country, many people are flocking to Tucson to play golf and get lessons! If you’re interested in getting lessons, be sure to let me know in advance so that we can find the time that works best!

  66. School’s Back In Session And Our Season Is Quickly Approaching!

    Hello my Friends!

    Summer went by in a FLASH and our HEAVY golf season is quickly approaching! Temperatures will start to drop and our weather will once again be IDEAL for great golf!

    The Forty Niner Country Club will begin it’s overseeding on Sept 25th this year, and the club is currently not sure if the range will be open as it was last year, so I’m not sure if I’ll be teaching at that time. I will keep you all updated as I find out.

    I’m starting to get a LOT of my after school times filled with students who want weekly lessons, so if you’re interested in getting in, NOW is the time to contact me!

    I will be once again starting up DEREK’S FRIDAY CLINICS which were a HUGE hit again last year as they have been previous. I’ve got some GREAT things in store for this year’s clinics to make them even the BEST YET and to help you reach and exceed your goals in this great game!

    Many of you may know that I started an online  “Petition” to Pacific Ridge School inquiring to see if there was any way they could potentially change the date/time of the Graduation ceremony so that Phil Mickelson could play in the US Open. To see/sign the “Phil Mickelson Petition” CLICK HERE!

    Please know that this is ALL in good fun, as I DO realize how hard this request would be considering how late it is in the proceedings, nor would I want it to cause OTHERS at the event to not be present because of the change. It is/was really a “polite request” to see if maybe a different date or time would be a better fit for the school overall as a whole. Have had a lot of Phil supporters from all over the world reach out, which has been pretty fun. Why not politely ask and see, right?!?! 🙂

    Hello my friends! What a GREAT season for golf instruction and at the club! We saw A LOT of students REACH and EXCEED their goals as they put in the work to improve their games! It was a VERY busy season and a great one at that! I will be continuing to teach a LOT this summer, will be hosting the 4 JUNIOR GOLF CAMPS (see previous posts for info), and will be working on a LOT of VIDEOS!!!

    Summer time is a GREAT time to work on your game and get onto the course and get a lot of rounds in! Be sure you’re not just spending all your time on the range if you want to improve your SCORING!

    2017 Forty Niner Country Club Junior Golf Camps!

    The Golf Camps are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and start at 8:00am with pickup from 11:45am-12:00pm

    Camp Dates:

    Camp 1 – May 29, May 31, June 2

    Camp 2 – June 12, 14, 16

    Camp 3 – June 26, 28, 30

    Camp 4 – July 10, 12, 14

    Fees:

    -$100 per Junior per Camp (or $40 per day)

    Ages: 6-14 (MUST be able to participate, and control themselves in big groups)

    Golf camp includes:  

    Professional Instruction, Daily Lunch, Prizes, Contests, 100 Ticket Challenge, Fun!

    Sign up as soon as possible, space is limited and these camps will fill up VERY fast! Payments and Registration for the camps will be taken in the Golf Shop on the first day of camp per week. No refunds will be given.

    Boy did that summer fly by or what!?! I couldn’t believe how many students braved the triple digit heat to continue to better their games! It was so awesome to see.

    Season is upon us and the Forty Niner Country Club is looking GOOD! As many of you know, in season my lesson book gets very full very fast. Be sure that if you’re looking for consistent weekly or bi-weekly lesson that you let me know ASAP so that we can plan a day and time that works before all of my spots get taken. Make this YOUR year to start playing the best golf of your life!

  95. Summer Is Flying By!

    I don’t know about you, but MAN is Summer flying by! Things have been going great this summer, as a lot of students still want to work hard to improve their games, and the heat won’t stop them!

    The weather is starting to show some signs of cooling down and it looks like it’s going to be another great season! I’m getting my fall schedule in place, so be on the lookout for the Friday Golf Clinics to start back up soon as well as the Junior Golf Clinics on Saturday’s may make a return.

    The Forty Niner Country Club is looking to close down for overseeding from September 26th through October 14th. I will update this if there are any changes made.

    I reached out to Derek over social media in late January about my chipping “yips”.  I’m a 2 handicap who struggled with “yips” for almost 6 years. I never gave up but tried every other instruction/ methodology of other popular short game instructors. You name it I tried it. Derek provided me incredible instruction and motivation to FIX my problem. Derek worked hard with me, offering insightful drills and video analysis and encouragement throughout my process of improving my short game. Tight lies used to terrify me. Now I’m so confident about getting over a tight lie and making solid contact. More importantly Derek taught me how to self assess- now when I have iffy contact on a chip I know why I made the mistake and therefore can improve on the next shot. Problem with the “yips” is that you don’t know what is going wrong so you don’t know how to fix it. Derek I cannot thank you enough, I almost walked away from the game completely. I look forward to keeping in contact with you and working with you in the future.

    Keep your weight stationed left and use your wrists right away to get the club more “up to down” rather than “low and sweeping”. Combining these two keys will improve your entry point consistency and give you a better angle of attack. – Derek Deminsky, PGA
